Who has never dreamed of talking to animals? This documentary wants to show that it is possible to communicate with sharks due to an universal language: body language.
6 pm, Ponta do Ouro, Mozambique Channel. Steven Surina, specialist in human-shark interaction, is finishing his dive among a dozen of bulldog sharks. He has done this dive hundreds of times, but suddenly the sharks behave in an unusual way. He feels vulnerable. The situation becomes difficult to defuse.

This experience leads him to question himself.
Then he starts an investigation in the Azores during which immerses him back into his archives. With the help of several specialists, Steven will try to answer these questions that are still pending: is the body language of sharks universal? Is anthropomorphism not an obstacle to the human-shark relationship?

We are three friends with the same passion for sharks and the same desire to change their image, to better protect them.
THE PASSER: Steven Surina. I'm a scuba diving instructor, shark naturalist guide, underwater cameraman and conferencist. With my organization Shark Education, founded in 2011, I'm accompanying groups of divers to meet sharks from around the world during thematic trips.
My goal: to demonstrate that it is possible to interact with sharks, to promote responsible ecotourism and, above all, I gives divers a training in shark conservation by converting them to this cause. I I have written 3 book including: "The Interaction Guide" and "Meeting the Sharks".
THE DIRECTOR Pierre-Etienne Larrous. I'm a director of documentary films, music and dance videos. I have directed several films about sharks (Shark Wave, Looking for Shadows, Journal de bord). As an underwater cinematographer, I have worked on "Requins mangeurs de sable" (Saint Thomas productions soon to be broadcast on National Géographic and France 5), "Méditerranée" (Boreales prod.) I'm also specialised in motion design and 3D modelling on animated films. I have been diving and working with Steven on the development of his educational video materials (3D animations) for many years.
THE PRODUCER : Patrick Metzlé. I'm passionate about scuba diving and marine fauna, I participated in several Shark Education expeditions with Steven. It is following a trip to South Africa that I proposed him to develop a series mag/documentary on the relationship between humans and sharks, of which I have produced the pilot directed by Pierre-Etienne "Shark Wave" in which a personality, in this case the filmmaker Jan Kounen (Doberman, 99 francs, Blueberry, Mon cousin ...) is invited to dive with sharks.
It was from this collaboration that this other "Shark Education" project, the film, was born.
This film will be punctuated with a lot of footage Steven has shot over the years all over the world.
Your donations will be used mainly to shoot the complementary sequences in the Azores and Mozambique.
Depending on the amount of funds raised, we will be able to complete 1, or even 3 stages thanks to you.
- 30.000 : September 2021 shooting in the Azores where the main action of the film takes place, it is here that Steven will begin his quest with the blue sharks off Pico, accompanied by the South African specialist Martijn Schouten.

- 40.000: Fall/Winter 2021, interviews with several shark specialists / First draft of a part of the film that we will present to the productions and the channels.
- 60.000 or +* : February 2022, shooting in Mozambique. This is where the film starts and this is also where it will end, with the bulldog sharks of Ponta do Ouro and more particularly a female called White Spot.
*who knows, maybe even finish the post production of the film.

Thanks to all of you !

Hello,
Thanks to you we have been able to reach our goal and even exceed it.
We now have the budget for the September shooting in the Azores where we will join another specialist, the South African Martijn Schouten.
Steven and Martijn will be diving in the open sea of Pico Island to observe and analyse the body language of blue sharks.
The Blue shark is also one of the most heavily fished species that needs to be protected.
The budget raised so far will also allow us to consider the 2nd step of intermediate post-production in order to propose the project to the broadcasters.
Also we are not far from reaching all or part of step 3 for the February 2022 shooting in Mozambique with the Bull sharks.
We have 1 ½ months to go.
The whole team would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your participation and for the energy you are giving us to complete this project, which we hope will contribute to changing the image of these animals, essential to the oceans and therefore to life on earth.
